BARN
QUILT
HISTORY
The Barn Quilt project was first started in Adams County, Ohio in 2001
to bring tourism into a very depressed rural area. From there it has
spread to many states, including Iowa in 2003.
Grundy County was the
first in Iowa to implement the project to bring tourism back into their
county off the newly finished Highway 20. Buchanan County took up the
project in April 2006 with the thought of not only bringing tourism
back into the county, but also viewing our unique barns along with the
age old art of quilting.
Delaware County joined the project in 2008.
With 97 counties now involved in the project, eventually we will have a
“clothesline of quilts” clear across the state.
